5 mind blowing facts you need to know about Hemp Protein

It's no secret that Hemp is one of the most overlooked plant-based proteins because of all the confusion and misinformation surrounding it. Check out our guide to hemp protein powder to learn more about this natural superfood.

Does Hemp protein contain any health risks? Will it get you high? What are the health benefits of Hemp protein?

Here’s everything you need to know.

1) It's an all-around protein

Protein powder made from hemp seeds contains 20 amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein. Our body needs protein to develop, grow, and maintain muscles, tissues, and vital organs. Additionally, it boosts metabolism and burns fat.

It contains all nine essential amino acids, which you can only obtain through food. It is rare for a plant-based protein to contain lysine, since most don’t. Additionally, hemp protein is easy to digest. The body is able to utilize almost all amino acids in hemp protein powder for important functions such as repair and maintenance.

2)  It helps build and repair muscles

The protein in Hemp also contains branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs). The three BCAAs are leucine, isoleucine, and valine, out of nine essential amino acids. Consumption of BCAAs can speed up post-workout recovery by reducing muscle soreness and stimulate muscle protein synthesis. Hemp protein contains 6.8% leucine, 4.5% isoleucine and 5.6% valine.

3) Lowered risk of heart disease

Including Hemp protein powder is a heart-healthy way to protect yourself (and your heart)! In addition to omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, hemp seeds also contain fiber. As a matter of fact, omega-6 fatty acids are considered pro-inflammatory, whereas omega-3s are anti-inflammatory.

It is possible to correct an imbalanced diet by consuming foods with lower omega-6 to omega-3 ratios, such as Hemp seeds, while reducing inflammation in the body and improving heart health at the same time. Hemp seeds also contain high amounts of arginine — an amino acid that produces nitric oxide. Nitric oxide signals the arteries to relax, which promotes normal blood pressure and reduces your risk of heart disease.

4) Promotes digestion and gut health

Gut health and digestion are essential to a healthy diet. Hemp seeds contain 80% soluble fiber and 20% insoluble fiber.

In your gut, soluble fiber creates a gel-like substance by attracting water. Soluble fiber not only feeds the good bacteria in your gut, but also binds to cholesterol and sugar and prevents their absorption into your bloodstream. By doing so, you can prevent blood sugar spikes and regulate cholesterol levels.

Fiber that is insoluble in water is called roughage. In essence, it adds bulk to your stool and prevents constipation. The rich fiber content of hemp protein powder reduces constipation and eliminates toxins naturally from the body. As a result, Hemp protein is a great option for all your detox plans.

5) Helps prevent sugar cravings

Hemp protein contains more dietary fiber than soy or rice protein, which are highly refined and contain little fiber. Fiber can help you maintain a healthy blood glucose level, as you know. Additionally, it can keep you full for longer. This prevents energy crashes and sugar cravings.
